Capsules

Realo Veterinary Pharmacy can compound most medications into a capsule for our animal patients. The encapsulation process allows us to customize dosages for a particular patient’s needs and sometimes combine multiple medications into one capsule. Understanding the difficulty of administering capsules to our animal patients, we always attempt to use the smallest capsule possible.

If your pet is on multiple medications, please speak with our pharmacist about customizing your order in different colored capsules to avoid medication confusion. We also dispense all of our veterinary medications in blue prescription vials to prevent confusion with human prescriptions.

All capsules have a shelf life of 6 months.

  • Medicated Treats

Medicated treats are a great alternative for animals that have trouble taking tablets, capsules or liquids. Our compounding pharmacists make each batch of medicated treats precisely to the veterinarian’s orders, mixing the active drug with a flavored treat base and gelatin. The soft chews can be administered directly by hand, mixed with food or cut in half for multiple dosings.

We offer two chewable sizes to accommodate a variety of strengths for all animals. Flavored samples which contain no medication are available upon request. Samples can be given to the pet to find the pet’s preferred flavor before we compound your pet’s medication into a tasty treat.

    Topical Products

We offer numerous creams, lotions, gels and ointments for topical application. These preparations are used for infections, inflammation and local anesthetics. Some of our most popular products are our otic ear packs and medicated bandages.

    Medicated Bandages

Our medicated bandages are an excellent option for hard to bandage areas. They slough off after several hours, similar to changing a bandage, and do not interfere with healthy tissue growth.

Our insufflator applicators make for ease of application without interfering with the wound site. Our pharmacists are happy to help demonstrate how to properly apply this unique medication.

Our most commonly requested medicated bandages are:

    Otic Ear Packs

Otic ear packs are a perfect solution for animals with chronic ear infections. Starting with a poloxamer base, we add medications customized to the veterinarian’s preference. The medication combinations often include an anti-fungal, steroid and antibiotic.

The otic ear packs are typically a one-time medication applied in the veterinarian’s office and last for 10-14 days. With this product, owners no longer have to medicate their animal’s ears on a daily basis, increasing efficacy and compliance for both pet and pet owner.

Our most commonly requested otic gels are a combination of:

*This product should NOT be used in animals with perforated ear drums.

    Transdermal Gels

Transdermal gels are an excellent alternative to give oral medications. Using just a small amount of gel, the medication is rubbed into the pinna (inside ear flap). The medication is then absorbed through the skin and works in the same way if given orally.

Transdermal gels serve as an alternative for pets who are not eating, having difficulty swallowing or otherwise refuse oral medications.

Our transdermal formulations are available in a traditional syringe method and in a transdermal pen. The pens offer easier application, cleaner use and extreme accuracy. Speak with our pharmacists for more information.

*Not all medications are suitable for transdermal delivery. Please speak with our pharmacists for assistance in determining if a drug may be administered in this manner.

Some of our most commonly requested transdermal gels include:

  • Amitriptyline
  • Amlodipine
  • Atenolol
  • Buspirone
  • Fluoxetine
